Where TK Electric works

By Torriono Kelly, master electrician · New Orleans, LA · License #03LEL16537

We cover New Orleans and the Jefferson Parish suburbs around it. That is a deliberate radius, not a marketing one. It is the distance we can drive and still show up when we said we would, which matters more to you than a map with the whole state shaded in.

The areas we cover

  • Orleans Parish. New Orleans proper and Algiers.
  • Jefferson Parish. Metairie, Kenner, Harahan on the East Bank; Gretna and Marrero on the West Bank.

If your address is near the edge of that, call and ask rather than guessing. An honest no costs you one phone call. A yes we should not have given costs you a day.

Two Entergys, one metro area

Most people never learn this until something goes wrong, and then it goes wrong at the worst possible moment. "Entergy" is not one company here. Orleans Parish is served by Entergy New Orleans, which is regulated directly by the New Orleans City Council. Jefferson Parish is served by Entergy Louisiana, regulated by the Louisiana Public Service Commission. Same parent brand, two separate regulated utilities, and which one you have comes down entirely to which side of the parish line your meter is on.

For keeping the lights on, the distinction changes nothing. It starts to matter the moment a job needs your service disconnected and reconnected, and that covers more work than people expect: a panel upgrade, a relocated meter, tying in a standby generator. We schedule that with whichever company serves your address, and their lead time is theirs, not ours. Knowing which one you are dealing with before the work starts is part of why a job lands on schedule. We wrote the longer version in Entergy New Orleans vs. Entergy Louisiana.

Orleans Parish

The housing stock is the job here. Doubles and shotguns that have been added onto for a century, panels that were modern in 1968, and the specific brands that turn up again and again in homes built or updated between the 1950s and the early 1980s. Permits run through the City of New Orleans Department of Safety and Permits, with an inspection after, and we pull them as part of the work rather than leaving it to you.

Flooding is its own category. Water on a panel leaves corrosion on the bus and inside the breakers, and it does not dry out and return to normal, whatever it looks like from the outside.

Jefferson Parish

Metairie, Kenner and Harahan on the East Bank, Gretna and Marrero across the river. Newer construction on average than Orleans Parish, which shifts the common work away from full rewires and toward service capacity: a panel that was sized for the house as built, now running central air, a tankless water heater and an EV charger that were never in the original load calculation.

Permitting outside Orleans Parish goes through a different authority on a different timeline. We handle it either way, and we will tell you the realistic schedule up front instead of the optimistic one.

Common questions

Do you work in Metairie and Kenner?

Yes. Both are in Jefferson Parish, along with Harahan, Gretna and Marrero. The electrical work is the same. What changes is the utility and the permit office, and we handle both.

Which Entergy serves my address?

Orleans Parish, including Algiers, is served by Entergy New Orleans. Jefferson Parish, including Metairie, Kenner, Gretna, Harahan and Marrero, is served by Entergy Louisiana. Same parent company, two separately regulated utilities, and which one you have depends on the address rather than on which truck drives by.

Why does it matter which Entergy I have?

For day to day power it does not. It matters when a job needs the service disconnected and reconnected, such as a panel upgrade, a relocated meter, or tying in a standby generator. That gets scheduled with whichever company serves your address, on their timeline rather than ours.

Do you work on the West Bank?

Yes. Gretna and Marrero are on the West Bank in Jefferson Parish, and Algiers is the West Bank portion of Orleans Parish.

What if my address is outside these areas?

Call and ask. If it is not a drive we can make and still do the job properly, we will tell you that instead of booking it and showing up late.
